The authors present the results of the investigation by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) technique of some imitations of Ottoman akches probably minted in Romania.

Four imitations of issues of Bayezid II (1482-1512) and two of those of Süleyman I (1520-1566) were analysed. For comparison, five Bayezid II akches and two of Süleyman I were also analysed. The coins belong to a hoard of unknown provenance from the Brasov County Museum's collections, and to the Balesti hoard, Vaslui County, kept at the Vasile Pârvan" Institute of Archaeology in Bucharest.

The results of the analyses indicate that the silver content of the imitations is lower comparing with the original akches, and the copper content is higher. Some considerations about the imitations of the Ottoman akches are made.
